Emmaus Bristol supports people experiencing homelessness and poverty by providing accommodation, personalised support, training, and work experience for up to 30 formerly homeless adults, known as Companions. In addition to its Companion community, they also provide family homes for those in housing need and move-on accommodation to support individuals as they progress towards independent living. Companions play an active role in operating the charity's social enterprises, enabling them to gain valuable work experience, develop practical skills, and improve their prospects for future employment. Emmaus Bristol monitors each Companion's progress using the Homelessness Outcomes Star, which helps the support team assess individual development across a range of wellbeing indicators.
The donated five mobile phones and ten SIM cards will be distributed to Companions to enhance their digital connectivity. The devices will enable beneficiaries to maintain contact with family, friends, and support networks, while also providing access to online services, healthcare appointments, employment opportunities, and training. By improving digital inclusion, the donation will support Companions in maintaining their wellbeing, reducing social isolation, and progressing towards greater independence and long-term recovery.
