Midlands Academy of Dance & Drama

Frances Clayton, founder of the Midlands Academy of Dance & Drama (MADD College) in 1967, believes that “everybody should be allowed access to quality, affordable Musical Theatre and Dance training”. The charity supports and develops young people with talent and ambition, while continuing to advance education and training within the performing arts. MADD College delivers outreach programmes in deprived areas, providing free creative workshops which aim to build confidence, creativity and aspiration among its participants. They also offer talent pathways and mentorship opportunities that support individuals beyond their time at the college. Each Spring, the organisation showcases their young people’s talent inviting audiences of agents and casting directors giving the creative students a chance to progress beyond their learning within the college. Students have gone on to work in the West End, film and TV also and would never have had this opportunity if it were not for the charity. The organisation offers BTEC and degree-level Performing Arts courses, including full scholarships for those facing financial hardship.

The charity received one laptop which means far more to the charity than simply providing access to technology. Part of the young people’s training involves research digitally and at the library which means more access to the internet and information. It will help bridge the digital divide and empower young learners to study, create, and develop their skills without limitations. The laptop represents opportunity and inclusion and will support the academic progress of students, helping to create a lasting impact on their future development and success.
