The Friends of St Johns Church is a dedicated charity that works to preserve and improve the buildings and facilities of the historic Church of St John for the benefit of the local community. The church is situated in an area experiencing high levels of poverty, deprivation, and loneliness. Their work recently helped to establish a community hall, which will host events aimed at tackling social isolation and loneliness, alongside the activities already taking place within the church. With the opening of the hall, the range of activities on offer can expand, providing greater opportunities for local residents to engage with and benefit from community services. The lack of modern equipment has created challenges with internal communications and with applying for external funding for projects and many older beneficiaries have limited exposure to digital technology and often require support when accessing essential online services. By improving access to technology, the charity hopes to strengthen its ability to support both its volunteers and local community.
This charity received two LifeStations. The donated devices will assist the church in managing a range of activities, including free community meals, social groups for older people, and providing hall attendees with access to digital equipment. The devices will also enable the church's officers to use more up-to-date technology, helping them apply for grants and support beneficiaries with accessing services such as benefits. In addition, the equipment will improve day-to-day administration, communication, and record-keeping, allowing the charity to operate more efficiently. This support will help the organisation continue its vital work while providing practical assistance to people across the local community.
