Prodigal Bikes is a charity that brings hope and changes lives in both Africa and the UK. In the UK, the organisation refurbishes donated bicycles, providing engineering skills and valuable work experience to individuals who need a second chance. These refurbished bikes are then either shipped to Africa or provided to refugees and asylum seekers in the UK.
In Africa, the bicycles are used to improve access to essential services, including healthcare, education, and employment. They enable patients to reach medical facilities and support school children and teachers in travelling to schools. The organisation also supplies tools, spare parts, and training to ensure the long-term sustainability of the bicycles. Prodigal Bikes has been active in Kenya since 2018 and currently has over 455 bikes in use, with further expansion planned in the coming years. In Eldoret, the bicycles support children travelling to school and assist individuals living in surrounding informal settlements in accessing employment opportunities. Partner organisations, including the Integrated Community Resource Group, also use the bicycles as teaching aids to train aspiring bike mechanics.
The donation of two Lifestation units will be provided to school children in Kenya, supporting their mobility and improving access to education. This contribution will help further the organisation’s mission of creating practical, sustainable transport solutions that enhance opportunities for individuals and communities.
