Quetzal is a charity based in Leicester that supports women who have experienced childhood sexual abuse. Established in 1989 as a self-help group, the charity has now celebrated over 30 years of supporting survivors, with its vision remaining unchanged to this day. A Quetzal is a beautiful bird that, according to legend, cannot live in a cage and would rather die than live without freedom. The charity chose its name as a symbol of freedom, resilience, and transformation. Quetzal upholds these values by providing safe and supportive group settings where women can share their experiences and support one another. In addition, the charity offers professional counselling tailored to survivors of sexual abuse. A range of services is available, including support groups, emotional support, workshops, online resources, and private counselling options. The organisation also collaborates with local partners and continues to raise awareness of the lasting effects of childhood sexual abuse and the importance of trauma-informed care.
The charity received a donation of a laptop. This device will support the Quetzal team in managing their day-to-day work by providing an additional workstation for administrative tasks and service delivery. The increased access to technology will help improve efficiency, enabling staff to dedicate more time to supporting beneficiaries and delivering vital services. This donation will play an important role in helping Quetzal continue its mission of empowering and supporting survivors of childhood sexual abuse on their journey towards recovery, resilience, and independence.
